DeciBells (Basel). The members of DeciBells are percussionists in the Basel Symphony Orchestra. They share a deep interest in other cultures, and have the express purpose of combining the conventional with the unexpected, the archetypical with the inventive. They had their debut at the 2008 Museum Night of Basel, Switzerland. They regularly collaborate with representatives of other cultural sectors, leading to richly varied concerts, performing with artists as culturally diverse as ethnoimprovisation artist Barni Palm (Bali/Basel), the Norwegian cult band ‘Fat Battery’, or Belly Dancer ‘Celestial Fatima’ (London). They also develop concepts for larger projects, such as workshops, or events spanning entire evenings. DeciBells has been invited repeatedly to the Percussive Art Festival in Warsaw, and performed with great public and critical acclaim at Borealis Festival in Norway, where they were also the Artists in Residence. Concerts in Europe and China followed and during the 2012 -2013 concert season DeciBells will be touring its extraordinary programme in the USA.
