From the driving power of percussion to the sensuous sonorities of the human voice: these are the sounds of this concert, which brings together two of Norway’s most distinguished groups: BIT20 Percussion and Nordic Voices. Their programme includes the world premiere of a new work by Craig Farr; other pieces come from Norway and Austria, plus the always fascinating, eccentric Italian Giacinto Scelsi.

Nordic Voices (Oslo) is a six-voice a cappella group. Formed in 1996, the group explores a repertoire from plainchant to new works commissioned from leading Norwegian composers, from the most sacred to the definitely profane. Programmes frequently mix type of music and may also include electronics. The group is increasingly in demand internationally, and in addition to regular concerts and festivals in Norway, recent tours have included visits to Taiwan, Stockholm, Germany, regular USA tours, and festivals in France and Greece. They represented Norway at Euromusicale in Munich, and the 7th World Symposium on Choral Music in Kyoto, Japan. At the forefront of researching vocal art, they explore new vocal techniques and new ways of using the classical trained voice, producing a wide range of techniques, from ordinary classical sounds to Mongolian overtone singing. CD releases by Nordic Voices have included both contemporary music and music from the past. Their recordings have attracted considerable critical acclaim and have been nominated for the Norwegian Grammy Awards.

BIT20 Percussion (Bergen) is a subset of the famous Bergen ensemble. BIT20. It was formed in 2000 with the goal of performing classic percussion solo and chamber music while exploring and commissioning new works in the latest mediums. BIT20 Percussion has performed both in Europe and the USA. In Norway they have performed in festivals such as Music Factory, Borealis, Ultima, Bergen International Festival and Nattjazz. The group has also been active performing concerts for schools in Bergen.
